There are many reasons why individuals request facial hair restoration to enhance a beard, eyebrows, or other areas. Some want a full beard and simply aren’t able to grow one naturally. Others want to hide a facial scar or birthmark, or would like more symmetry. Some want fuller eyebrows. Whatever the reason or request may be, Dr. Shim Ching offers effective solutions for facial hair restoration in Hawaii, including eyebrow and facial hair transplants in Honolulu.

Beard and eyebrow transplants in Hawaii

A beard or eyebrow transplant is a procedure in which hair is transplanted to areas of the face where growth is thin or missing. Dr. Ching uses either Follicular unit extraction (FUE) and follicular unit transplantation (FUT) for this treatment to achieve optimal results. If you’re interested in a facial hair transplant in Hawaii, Dr. Ching can help.

How does a beard transplant work?

An FUE beard transplant is the most common beard transplant procedure. In this technique, hairs within their hair follicles are removed one by one from the scalp at the nape of your neck, under the chin, or another area (called a “donor area”), and are transplanted to the area where the patient wants more hair. An FUE beard transplant procedure takes 2-5 hours, and will leave no scars where the hair follicles were removed. Most patients report little or no discomfort.

The other technique Dr. Ching uses is an FUT transplant. He will take a small strip of your scalp using a microscopic dissection method to harvest follicles. The wound is then closed, leaving only a tiny scar behind. This can also be a good option as we do not need to shave this area to harvest the follicles.

Patients who are considering a Hawaii beard transplant should make a long-term plan, as it may require multiple sessions. The transplanted hair should begin growing 3 to 4 months after treatment, and should improve in growth up to 12 months post-procedure or longer.

What Are The Benefits of Facial Hair Restoration?

Facial hair restoration, such as beard or mustache transplantation, provides numerous benefits for individuals seeking to enhance their facial appearance. Key advantages include:

  • Enhanced facial aesthetics with fuller, more defined facial hair.
  • Improved self-confidence and self-esteem by addressing sparse or uneven hair growth.
  • Customizable results tailored to individual preferences in shape, density, and distribution.
  • Natural-looking outcomes achieved through modern transplantation techniques.
  • Long-lasting, permanent results without ongoing maintenance.
  • Minimally invasive procedures with minimal discomfort and downtime.
  • Suitable for various hair types and ethnicities, complementing masculine features effectively.

Ideal candidates for a Honolulu beard transplant

  • Men who want to hide a facial defect or a weak chin, but cannot grow facial hair to hide it
  • Men who have any type of scar that is affecting growth

How does an eyebrow transplant work?

Eyebrows are one of the most important features for creating harmony and balance to the face. Many people want fuller eyebrows to correct naturally sparse hairs, over-plucking, or brow loss due to age. The hair is your own real hair and the results last a lifetime.

The FUE and FUT techniques are also used for the eyebrow transplant procedure. This achieves a fuller, more shapely, natural looking brow. Everyone’s facial structure and brow shapes are different, and Dr. Ching takes this into consideration when determining the best method and aesthetic.

What's the Recovery After Facial Hair Restoration?

Downtime and recovery following a Honolulu eyebrow transplant are minimal. Patients are able to return to normal activities and work after a couple days. There will be small scabs around each hair graft within the eyebrows for up to 10 days following your procedure, and patients should note that many of the implanted hairs will fall out initially during the first few weeks after your procedure. The new hairs will begin to grow and become visible after 3 to 4 months following the treatment.

Ideal candidates for an eyebrow transplant

  • Individuals who want fuller eyebrows
  • Individuals with traumatic hair loss from over-plucking or scars
  • Those who have hair loss that is not caused by a medical condition
